EinScan Trak supports wireless 3D scanning workflows

EinScan Trak supports wireless 3D scanning workflows

SHINING 3D introduces EinScan Trak, a wireless, dual-form, marker-free tracking system for professional 3D scanning.

EinScan Trak is designed to support large-scale 3D scanning workflows as well as small-object scanning. The system combines an optical tracking system with a detachable handheld scanner, allowing users to scan large objects in tracking mode and capture localized details in handheld laser scanning mode.

The system supports marker-free scanning in tracking mode, allowing users to scan large object surfaces without placing markers on the object itself. Handheld scanner mode also supports blue laser marker-free scanning for feature-rich surfaces, helping reduce setup time in both scanning workflows.

With three laser scanning modes, wireless operation, flexible hardware configurations and workflow software integration, EinScan Trak supports applications such as reverse engineering, automotive customization, cultural heritage preservation, engineering design, and large-object digitization.

Two scanning modes in one system

Large-scale scanning systems often require different devices for different tasks, along with setup and preparation time. EinScan Trak combines two scanning workflows in one system.

Tracking mode

In tracking mode, the spherical scanner works wirelessly with the tracker to scan medium-to-large objects. This mode is suited for applications such as automotive bodies, aftermarket modifications, speedboats, and private yachts.

The tracker monitors the spherical scanner’s position using retroreflective markers on the scanner, reducing the need to rely on continuous object features or markers placed on the object. This supports movement between scanning areas while maintaining stable data capture across large objects.

Handheld scanner mode

For tasks requiring reach and flexibility, the scanner can be detached and used independently as a wireless handheld laser scanner.

This mode is suited for capturing data from small mechanical components, deep cavities, narrow spaces, and other hard-to-reach areas. As a handheld scanner, it does not require tracker setup, which supports easier deployment, transport, and operation.

Users can switch from tracking mode to handheld scanner mode within the same project to support complete data capture and workflow flexibility.

Tracking system components

The EinScan Trak system includes two coordinated components: an optical tracker and a spherical scanner module designed for surface coverage. The spherical scanner module includes a detachable handheld scanner for independent handheld operation.

The scanner includes two 2MP depth cameras and a 5MP texture camera for simultaneous geometry and color data capture. Its laser projection system includes crossed laser lines for efficient scanning, parallel laser lines for detail capture, and a single laser line for deep-feature scanning. The tracker is also equipped with 5MP cameras to support tracking and spatial capture.

Three blue laser modes for different applications

The EinScan Trak Series includes three laser scanning modes for different scanning requirements.

Crossed Laser Lines

The crossed laser line mode is designed for high-speed scanning and efficient data capture. EinScan Trak uses a 19+19 crossed laser line projector, allowing the system to capture more data per frame and support faster data acquisition.

7 Parallel Laser Lines

The 7 parallel laser line mode is designed to capture sharp edges and fine details. It is suited for reverse engineering, mechanical components, and measurement workflows. This mode supports the capture of edges, contours, and detailed surface features.

Single Laser Line

The single laser line mode is designed for scanning challenging areas such as deep holes, narrow channels, internal structures, and other difficult-to-reach geometries. It helps users capture data from areas that may be difficult to scan with conventional methods.

Wireless large-area scanning

EinScan Trak supports both wireless and wired operation, allowing users to work across different environments without cable constraints when using wireless mode. It combines large-range scanning with localized detail capture, supporting full-object coverage and fine-detail reconstruction.

Equipped with a high-capacity battery and a Wi-Fi 6 communication module, the system connects through an independent LAN and pairs automatically at startup. Wireless scanning is supported within a range of up to 4 meters.

Multi-project alignment allows datasets captured from different tracker positions to be merged through feature-based alignment without requiring markers on the object. This supports consistent data capture across large-scale scanning projects.

The Hybrid Leapfrog function allows users to reposition the tracker while maintaining tracking and measurement continuity, extending the effective scanning range for large-area digitization. Hybrid Leapfrog requires four markers per tracker position.

EinScan Trak supports scanning speeds of up to 2,630,000 points per second, helping users capture large objects efficiently.

Marker-free 3D scanning

Marker placement is often one of the more time-consuming steps in 3D scanning. In applications such as vintage vehicle restoration, cultural heritage preservation, and artwork digitization, placing markers may also be impractical, undesirable, or prohibited due to the nature or value of the objects being scanned.

The EinScan Trak Series supports marker-free scanning in tracking mode through its Marker-Free Tracking System and in handheld scanner mode through SHINING 3D’s laser marker-free technology. For objects with rich and non-repetitive geometric features, the handheld scanner uses surface features for tracking and alignment, allowing users to scan without additional marker setup. For applications requiring higher scanning detail, global markers remain available as an option.

Building complete 3D models

The EinScan Trak Series combines large-area coverage with detail capture within a single project. During scanning, users can switch between different resolutions and apply Local Resolution to areas requiring more detail, supporting a workflow that balances speed and detail. With a scanning range of up to 4 meters and resolutions as fine as 0.05 mm, the system supports both large-object scanning and detailed capture.

Data captured in tracking mode and scanner mode can be merged within a single project, with compatibility across different laser modes. This workflow helps reduce redundant data and supports the creation of complete and consistent 3D models.

Wireless workflow for different environments

The EinScan Trak Series is designed for use in real-world scanning environments. Its scanning capabilities support data capture on challenging surfaces, including black materials, reflective finishes, metallic components, and automotive rims, helping reduce data loss and the need for surface preparation in many cases.

The system also supports scanning under indoor and outdoor conditions, including outdoor lighting conditions of up to 110,000 lux.

Battery performance supports up to 5.5 hours of operation in tracking mode and up to 3.5 hours in scanner mode. Hot-swappable batteries support longer scanning sessions.

Its carbon fiber structure provides durability while maintaining portability for transport and field deployment.

5MP texture capture

Laser tracking systems are often used for speed, detail, and measurement capabilities. Equipped with a 5MP texture camera, EinScan Trak also supports color and material capture alongside geometric data. This allows users to preserve both the shape and visual appearance of an object, making the system suitable for cultural heritage preservation, museums, scientific research, education, and digital archiving.

Scanning, measurement and reverse engineering workflows

EXMeasure supports measurement workflows with multiple model alignment methods and feature creation for points, lines, planes, cylinders, spheres, and other geometric elements.

The software supports color map comparison between a reference model and measured model. It also supports GD&T inspection functions such as flatness, parallelism, and cylindricity. Users can measure angle, area, and volume, or simulate caliper measurements for diameter, length, and other dimensions.

With visual report generation, EXMeasure helps users communicate measurement results and support quality control and engineering verification workflows.

EXModel reverse engineering software

EinScan Trak integrates with the EXModel series to support downstream CAD workflows. The software supports mesh editing, coordinate alignment, primitive extraction, cross sections, 2D/3D sketching, free-form modeling, auto surfacing, and feature-based reconstruction.

With EXModel, users can convert scan meshes into editable CAD-ready geometry, create references from geometric elements, and build surfaces and profiles for further design work. Standard CAD export and feature transfer support reverse engineering, design optimization, and production validation workflows.

Applications across industries

EinScan Trak Series is designed for a range of scanning requirements across industries. It supports workflows in industry-specific customization, product and industrial design, engineering measurement, automotive applications, and large-object digitization.

Its ability to capture both geometry and color also makes it suitable for creating digital assets for AR, VR, and other digital content applications, as well as cultural heritage preservation, art digitization, education, and scientific research.
