FANUC launches 5-axis technology initiative

FANUC CORPORATION is introducing a program for CNC machine tool builders, CAD/CAM companies and manufacturers to help improve part quality and production efficiency by aligning workflows with current machining practices. The FANUC 5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative focuses on improving efficiency, accuracy and repeatability when producing complex components on CNC-based machines.

Updating machining workflows

Many production challenges stem from programming methods and machine-specific workflows that can be time-consuming to maintain. In traditional environments, each CNC machine tool may require a separate programming approach. Programmers may also need to manually calculate complex multi-axis movements, creating part programs tailored to a specific part and machine.

The initiative provides guidance for adopting more standardized, machine-agnostic processes. By following FANUC’s recommended practices, partners can move from machine-dependent programming toward part-specific programming, reducing setup requirements and supporting the use of programs across multiple machines.

Improving coordination across manufacturing systems

The initiative also focuses on coordination between the CNC machine, post processor, CAD/CAM system and simulation environment. It includes guidelines for machine setup and recommendations for optimizing post processors within CAD/CAM systems.

As part of the program, machine tool builders and CAD/CAM partners must produce a standardized 5-axis evaluation part to demonstrate that their machines, software and settings meet FANUC’s recommended practices.Top of Form
