SprintRay launches ceramic-filled resin for definitive restorations

SprintRay, a dental technology company focused on dental 3D printing and digital manufacturing, has announced the commercial launch of SprintRay Midas Restore, an FDA-cleared ceramic- and zirconia-filled definitive restorative resin developed for the Midas Digital Press.

With more than 75% filler by weight, Midas Restore combines glass ceramic and zirconia in a formulation intended for definitive restorations. The material is designed to provide strength, occlusal wear resistance, polish retention and tooth-colored aesthetics for crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers produced through a same-visit digital workflow.

The material was developed to address the functional requirements of bonded restorations, including polishing, wear, flexural behavior and interaction with the remaining tooth structure while meeting specified strength requirements.

Designed for bonded restorations

Restorative materials are commonly evaluated according to their bulk strength. Glass ceramics and zirconia are brittle materials, so their resistance to crack propagation depends in part on shear strength. This can require additional tooth reduction and may result in a restoration that is stiffer than necessary for some applications.

Midas Restore uses a resin matrix designed to help limit crack propagation. Its flexural modulus is closer to that of dentin than to that of glass ceramic. When adhesively bonded to the remaining tooth structure, the restoration and tooth can function as a combined system that distributes loading across the bonded interface.

In SprintRay laboratory testing, Midas Restore retained 98% of its initial gloss after 5,000 simulated toothbrush abrasion cycles. It also demonstrated five times the wear resistance of SprintRay Ceramic Crown over 200,000 cycles, with wear performance comparable to a milled hybrid ceramic. In biaxial flexural testing, Midas Restore reached a maximum strength of 215 MPa, the highest value reported among SprintRay’s definitive restorative materials.¹

Surface hardness was measured at more than 80 HV, which was statistically equivalent to that of a leading nanofilled direct composite and approximately twice the hardness of previous-generation printed restorative resins. The material’s translucency parameter of 13.5 is within the range reported for milled lithium disilicate HT.²

Developed for pressing

The material properties of Midas Restore require a filler content that conventional dental 3D printing systems may not process. Highly filled formulations have higher viscosity and generally do not flow into a print zone without assistance.

SprintRay’s Digital Press Stereolithography (DPS) technology moves the material into the print zone from sealed capsules. This process supports filler content above 75% by weight and limits Midas Restore use to the Midas Digital Press.

Built for same-visit dentistry

Midas Restore is designed for a digital workflow that includes scanning, restoration design, pressing, post-curing, polishing and bonding.

Clinicians can press multiple units from one capsule, post-cure restorations in four minutes and polish them to a final finish with two wheels in less than two minutes. The process does not require glazing or an oven. Midas Restore can also be adjusted, added to and repaired intraorally before adhesive cementation, allowing delivery without a provisional restoration, second appointment or laboratory bill.

Midas Restore is based on the Midas Digital Press platform, which was introduced in 2024. SprintRay reports that clinicians in 33 countries have produced more than 100,000 restorations using Midas since its launch. Early clinical evaluations of Midas Restore have also assessed its finishing and polishing characteristics.

Availability

Midas Restore will be available in the United States beginning September 1, 2026, in A1, A2, A3, B1 and C2 shades. A three-pack of single-unit capsules will cost $135 and will be sold through the SprintRay Store and authorized SprintRay distribution partners.

Midas Restore is validated for use with the SprintRay Midas Digital Press and SprintRay NanoCure. In the United States, it is FDA 510(k) cleared under K260661 as a Class II prescription-only device.
